Home Advisory Board Boston University, as part of an effort to develop the nation's finest online program in Financial Planning, has formed an advisory board comprised of thought, education and industry leaders to help us review and improve the quality of the program. The Advisory Board is composed of a wide cross section of thought and education leaders who will review and critique the quality of the Program. The Advisory Board includes:
Robert Clark Clark began his career in 1983 as a freelance writer for Financial Planning Magazine, at that time, the leading publication for financial advisors. As senior editor, he covered all facets of the advisor world, from broker/dealers to insurance to investments, and as editor-in-chief from 1988 - 1990, he directed that publication to $4 million in revenues and a 25% profit margin. In 1990, he became senior editor on the staff of what was to become Fidelity Investments Worth Magazine.In his five-year tenure at Worth, the magazine grew to a circulation of 750,000. Clark created and edited the Advisor section of the magazine, and created features such as the Worth Guide to Mutual Funds, The Best Financial Advisors in America, and the Worth Guide to Private Banking. Bob also became the magazines spokesman with appearances on the "Today Show", CNN, PBS, and a weekly show on CNBC. Clark left Worth in 1995 to become editor-in-chief of Dow Jones Investment Advisor Magazine. By the time he left in 2000, the magazines circulation had increased from 60,000 to 75,000 advisors, and revenues grew from $3 million to $8 million a year. He also created and hosted the Portfolio Management Symposium, which generated over $750,000 in revenues and attracted over 800 advisors a year. Clark is a frequent speaker at advisor industry conferences on such topics as the future of financial advice, lessons from the most successful advisory practices, and how to market an asset management business. Hy Cohen Prior to joining Royal Alliance, Cohen was at Integrated Resources, Inc., from 1981-1990, where he was Regional Vice President for Marketing from 1986-1990, selling packaged products in the Northeast. His ability to understand consumer behavior coupled with the regulatory environment, particularly at the point of sale, accounted for his success in that position. Cohen made the transition to sales from a career grounded in finance. At Integrated Resources, he was Chief Financial Officer & First Vice President (financial and operations principal for the broker-dealers) from 1983-1985 and Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer, Equipment Leasing from 1981-1983. He was an Audit Manager from 1977-1981 at Touche Ross & Co. and at Eisner & Lubin, CPAs, from 1973-1977. As a CFO of Integrated Resources, Cohen had direct involvement in all financial and regulatory matters of two broker/dealers and investment advisory subsidiaries. He participated directly with the development of the mutual fund and private account business from a structural as well as distribution point of view in order to determine necessary critical mass. The road to Chairman of Royal Alliance began for Hy Cohen 55 years ago in Brooklyn, New York .He attended New York City Public Schools, Brooklyn College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, and Pace University, where he did graduate study in taxation. He has been licensed as a Certified Public Accountant since 1975 and holds Series 7, 24, 27, and 63 licenses from the NASD. Cohen served active duty in the military from 1966-1968 and was awarded an honorable discharged. While a resident of Marlboro, New Jersey, with his wife and two children, Cohen found time to be involved in his community. He served six years on the Marlboro Board of Education and three years on its Planning Board. He was also President of the Banking and Finance Chapter of the New York Bnai B'rith and still serves on its Board of Directors. Peter Cummins From 1976 - 2002, he had a successful career at The Hartford Financial Services Group. The main thrust of his efforts was in the direction of the variable annuity business with emphasis on sales and marketing. The variable annuity business grew into a $15 billion annual line with assets of over $100 billion at the end of 2001. The Hartford Life has been the leading company in this business since 1993. In 1995, The Hartford Life introduced its very successful mutual fund family, which is now producing over $6 billion in sales annually. During his years at The Hartford, Cummins was involved in industry activities as Chairman of the Marketing Committee of the National Association of Variable Annuities, a member of the board of directors of The Forum for Investor Advice, and worked with the SEC on industry matters. In 1996, Cummins was the winner of the Harold Geneen Award for Management. He retired from The Hartford in 2002 as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. A resident of Old Lyme, CT, Mr. Cummins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School, before he went to business school. Mr. Cummins is married with three children. His hobbies include golfing, fishing, boating, reading, and traveling. Herbert
K. Daroff, J.D., CFP Mr. Daroff graduated from Drexel University with a B.S. in Commerce and Engineering in 1975, and Temple University - School of Law with a J.D. in 1979. Herb is very active in volunteer efforts in his community and the financial services industry. He is Past President of the Greater Boston Chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP, now the Financial Planning Association, FPA) and served as a member of the national IAFP Ethics Committee and the Board of Practice Standards and Board of Professional Review for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. He currently serves as an officer of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP) in Boston. Herb’s creativity, experience, and resourcefulness enable him to work very well with clients and their professional advisory team in order to implement responsive solutions for financial objectives. Herb is contributing editor for LIFE & Health Advisor. He has been quoted in several financial industry publications including Financial Planning, Investment Advisor, and Ticker and his work has appeared in the Boston Globe. Roy T. Diliberto John Ebersole Ebersoles experience in higher education is extensive. At Colorado State University, he served as associate provost and professor of management. At the University of California, Berkeley, he held the multiple positions of Assistant Dean, UC Extension, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Director of Berkeley Worldwide, and Department Chair in Continuing Education for Business & Management. In addition to his deanship at John F. Kennedy Universitys School of Management, Ebersole was an executive vice-president of Marsh and Company, a San Francisco-based investment firm specializing in start-up funding and management. He also held increasingly responsible positions with the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring at the rank of Commander. Among his numerous professional affiliations, Ebersole is currently the President of the University Continuing Education Association and a member of the Board of Directors and Chair, Academic Standards Committee, of the New England College of Finance. He is a candidate for a Doctorate of Education in Executive Leadership at George Washington University, and he holds several masters degrees including an MPA in Administration and an MBA in International Business from John F. Kennedy University. Robert J.
Glovsky Glovsky is a practicing financial planner with more than 20 years of experience. Before forming Mintz Levin Financial Advisors, he was a Principal of one of New Englands largest fee-only financial planning practices. With broad-based experience in financial planning, individual tax planning, and money management, Glovskys particular focus is on asset allocation and investment strategies. Glovsky is the Director Emeritus of Boston Universitys Program for Financial Planners, the largest CFP Board-Registered Program in New England and one of the largest in the country. He also served as Chair of the Board of Examiners of the Certified Financial Planners Board of Standards, which sets standards for CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professionals worldwide. He has lectured and taught lawyers, accountants, and educators and has spoken extensively throughout the country on financial planning topics. He has also served as a financial planning expert in the development of a financial planning software product. Recently, Glovsky was listed on the Mutual Fund Magazines Nations Top 100 Financial Planners. Worth Magazine has selected Glovsky as one of the Best Financial Advisors in the Country for each of the past five years; in addition, he was profiled nationally in Financial Planning Magazine which named him as one of the Ten Best Star Planners. He is widely renowned for his financial expertise and is currently the host of Bob Glovsky -The Money Expert, airing five days a week on Business 1060AM WBIX. His views were also showcased for over eight years when he served as co-host of The Money Experts on Boston radio and of The Financial Planners on MediaOne cable television stations. Glovsky has also appeared on CNBC, local Boston PBS, ABC, CBS, and NBC stations, and on New England Cable News. In the print media, Glovskys expertise is widely recognized. He has been a professional advisor to the Boston Herald Money Manager Column and a contributor to the Boston Business Journal and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. He is regularly quoted in publications including Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe,and The Boston Herald. Glovsky received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and both his J D and a Masters degree in Taxation from Boston University School of Law. Hartstein Mr. Hartstein became Chairman of the Investment Company Institute (ICI) Sales Force Marketing Committee in September of 2003, and was nominated for Institutional Investor Newsletter Group’s Fund Marketer of the Year in 2001. He has been involved directly or indirectly with the securities industry since 1982, including a 10-year stretch as a mutual fund wholesaler calling on financial professionals, first in the Pacific Northwest and later in the Southeastern U.S. Mr. Hartstein received a B.A. in journalism from Louisiana State University in 1978 and has completed the Securities Industry Institute program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and the Executive Integral Leadership Program at Notre Dame. Susan Hirshman Ms. Hirshman began her career as a CPA specializing in taxation of high net worth individuals. Prior to joining JPMorgan, Ms. Hirshman was a senior manager at KPMG LLP specializing in personal financial planning and investment consulting for high net worth individuals, corporate executives, foundations, endowments, defined benefit and defined contribution plans. Ms. Hirshman joined JPMorgan Private Bank in 1999 prior to her new role with JPMorgan Funds. In addition to earning her M.B.A. at Baruch College in New York City, Ms. Hirshman is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Analyst. As chair of the community volunteer committee for JPMorgan’s Chase Women’s Interactive Network, Ms. Hirshman shares her commitment to the community by playing an important role in the coordination of the firm’s volunteer activities. Ms. Hirshman has been featured in a number of financial publications and recently appeared on CNBC’s Power Lunch to discuss issues surrounding college planning. Karen Mineo John O. Myers Prior to HSBC, Myers was Senior Vice President at Transamerica Life Companies. As head of distribution for the bank and broker dealer channels, he increased annuity sales from $450 million to $1 billion annually. At BankAmerica Investment Services, the registered broker/dealer for Bank of America, Myers was chief executive officer, managed registered rep sales force of 500, and generated $1.7 billion annual sales and $100 million profit. During 10 years as a senior vice president at Colonial Management Associates, Myers established and led the bank distribution channel to achieve sales of $100 million /month, reprresenting 30% of total sales, and built the financial planner/insurance agent channel to achieve 15% of total sales. Myers' experience includes institutional sales both for Colonial and as a third party marketer on behalf of ForstmannLittle, Daiwa Capital Management, and Julius Baer Bank. He also was in the computer systems business with Hewlett Packard for financial services applications. As a Lieutenant j g in the U S Navy, Myers served on board
a Destroyer Escort. Paul P. Saitta Saitta has worked within the firms branch system as a top-producing personal broker and top-producing branch manager. In 1995, Saitta accepted the position of director of all Fixed Income, Packaged Products, Mutual Funds, and Annuity Distribution. In 1996, he was given the title of vice president and director of Financial Products, Services, and Sales. He currently oversees a multi-channel sales distribution network including a nationwide Investor Center network. Saitta has worked with the Security Industry Foundation for Economic Education as a trainer/facilitator and has received the Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor designation from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, CO. He previously served on an advisory council for the Institute for Wealth Management to aid in the delivery of wealth management courses and designations within the securities industry. Saitta resided on the Securities Industry Association Institutes Participant Advisory Council at the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from the Institutes three-year program in 1998. Currently a member of the SIA Sales and Marketing Committee, he holds an undergraduate degree in Public Administration from Stonehill College in North Easton, MA. Saitta resides in Duxbury, MA, with his wife and five children. Jack Sharry Sharry serves on the board of governors for The Money Management Institute (MMI), the national organization for the managed account industry, which represents portfolio manager firms and sponsors of investment consulting programs. Sincere Prior to starting the firm, Sincere was Senior Vice President
of Fidelity Investment Advisor Group (FIAG), a division of
Fidelity Investments. In 1994, he joined National Westminster
Bank as a Senior Vice President of NatWest Brokerage, after
serving over 10 years in strategic marketing and sales positions
for Citibank/Citicorp, including Regional Vice President
of Citicorp Investment. He has also held Sincere earned his Master of Management degree in 1983 from
Northwestern To keep abreast of the independent RIAs' expanding and changing
needs, Sincere works closely with professional associations
such as the Financial Planning Association (FPA), National
Association of Financial Planners (NAPFA), and American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He currently serves

Sloan Mr. Sloane also works closely with the Bank Insurance & Securities Association and was instrumental in the merger of two predecessor associations, the BSA and the FIIA. As Managing Director of the BISA, he works with members and Board committees in a number of capacities. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the BISM-OnLine and the Bank Securities Industry Registry and is in constant contact with the strategic, tactical, business and marketing issues facing the bank, securities and insurance firms as they converge into the new financial services industry. Prior to becoming a principal of DSG, Mr. Sloane was General Manager and Director of Institutional Markets for Wiesenberger, a major mutual fund information company. He merged two pre-existing information companies and increased the size and scope of the merged business to include variable annuity and closed end fund databases and software. He also directed the redesign and development of a state of the art software and on-line research and sales systems. While at Wiesenberger he created the Hysales/Investment View software system, a performance measurement, hypotheticals, and asset allocation system. From 1981 to 1991, he was a Vice President with Delaware Group working with the chairman and president on a variety of strategic initiatives. There he was responsible for product management, retirement plans, and marketing. He was also a Founding Director of Delaware Management Trust Company. During this time he developed and introduced over 20 various types of domestic and international mutual funds, the industry’s first "class of shares structure" for a long term fund, a variable insurance product line, as well as unique and successful hybrids of deposit, transaction, credit and securities products. He was instrumental in the migration of both the transfer agency and retirement plan processing systems to new platforms. Previously, Mr. Sloane held various positions of increasing responsibility with The Philadelphia National Bank in the commercial and international areas where his responsibilities included: developing the Credit Products Management discipline for the commercial banking group, major systems development, and instituting a Non-Credit Product function across the entire Commercial & International Banking Group. Mr. Sloane has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Haverford College and a Masters in Management from The London School of Economics. He has served on various marketing and research committees of associations in the banking, mutual fund and financial planning industries. In addition he has served on the boards of both profit and non profit corporations. Neal E. Sullivan Sullivan is also the former Executive Director of the North American Securities Administrators Association, former Vice President, Regulation, Boston Stock Exchange (BSE), and former Chief, Massachusetts Securities Division.
