Course description
This course concentrates on specific fund raising areas. Course modules include the following topics:
Planned and Estate Gifts: structuring a planned giving program; goal setting; planned giving timelines; gift vehicles such as annuities, trust, and bequests; assets used in planned gifts; and marketing strategies and materials. Students will also be trained to use PGCalc’s powerful planned giving tool, Planned Giving Manager, the field standard in calculation and proposal management software.
Internet Fund Raising: social networking, micro-targeting (the customizing of websites for a targeted population), new online engagement tools with solicitation functions, and how to harness the web to enhance and boost current development efforts. Various web-based strategies for fund raising are investigated: what they are, how they can help your organization, and how they are best implemented.
Prospect Research: individual, corporate, and foundation research; proactive research (new prospects) and reactive research (current prospects); effectively using data systems to enhance efficiency and productivity; selecting and using research tools to optimize your efforts; and effective information management.
Management and Accountability: how development processes are managed—gift processing, gift reporting, stewardship and donor relations, endowment management; ethics in fund raising; successful development communications; and managing volunteers, boards, and other key players.
