PARA210 - Paralegal Career Seminar

Back | Schedule

Course description
This course is taught in two parts. The first session will cover basic resume writing: how to organize your resume and maximize your results, and the do's and don'ts of a paralegal’s resume. Interviewing techniques, including what type of questions to ask during an interview, will be addressed. Students learn how to research a firm or corporation so that his/her questions reflect a degree of awareness of that firm's business (a sure way to score points on an interview). Appropriate dress and other interview strategies are discussed. Finally, students learn how to initiate and maintain a successful employment search using the internet, researching legal periodicals, and consulting placement agents. The second session is comprised of individual student resume critiques conducted by a paralegal placement agent in 15 minute intervals. Students are expected to revise and implement changes to their resumes after the first class and prior to the second class’s individual critique.
