Course description


This course has two main components: communication and translation. The communication portion of the course focuses on the technical study of oral and written language, linguistics, communication theory, and translingual, intercultural communication. The translation portion of the course consists of practical instruction in the theoretical and technical aspects of translation. This is done by means of short theoretical presentations and practical exercises in the production of finished, proofread, and edited translated texts using word processors. Students will learn how to select and use generalized and specialized dictionaries, and how to compile customized glossaries. They will learn the best approaches to document preparation and output, and will have ample opportunities to interact and present material in class. (48 hours)

Prerequisites
Acceptance into program and fluency in appropriate languages.
